(Shudder. I think that's my worst nightmare - I couldn't deal with all of those brides and overzealous vendors in one place! I don't do well in big crowds lol.) She posted some great pictures of she and her friend trying out the photobooths that were around, and how she'd love one for her wedding. Well weeks ago Dave and I sent in our contract to have a photobooth at our wedding!

(It's pretty much going to be the one on the right. But not on a Boardwalk.)

It's pretty cool, you get 6 different poses, and then in the middle of the strips of pictures (3 on either side) will be room for a logo or something basically saying "Dave and Lacey's wedding, March 20, 2010." Then the attendant will ask the guests which side they want to keep, and the other half will go into a scrapbook that's on-site and then everyone writes stuff next to their pictures. How cool is that??
It is a little pricey, but honestly I think the memories are going to be freaking awesome. Especially the more people have to drink!!

But here's where I need suggestions from you guys. I'm thinking of buying all kinds of props and having a basket of them next to the photobooth for people to use. Here's what I've come up with so far:

- Feather boas
- Flapper headbands (like this)
- Goofy sunglasses
- Fake mustaches

....? And then I get stuck! What would you put in the prop basket for a photobooth?

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com17tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-34905512848208821122009-07-12T19:30:00.004-04:002009-07-12T19:52:07.773-04:00New Look! Not for me, but for my blog! Please go over and take a gander! The lovely Allison from Addie Designs is the creative mind behind my makeover, and I LOVE every thing that she did. (She also did the layout for my lovely friend D.A.R.) It was great working with her, and we comunicated SO often (which was especially great considering she's currently in Germany!), and she encourages you to be extremely honest. And best of all, she's super affordable. At least for me!!

Here's a sneak peak of my new header, but trust me, click over to my blog (if you're reading in a reader), and check it out!!!

And if you're in the market for a new blog makeover, I DEFINITELY suggest you head on over to Addie Designs to work with Allison!!

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-81540378416344770142009-07-11T21:39:00.002-04:002009-07-11T22:20:18.458-04:00Whip it Up Week 2 - Frozen Mojito Cake-FAILS
This week's Whip it Up theme was something I was psyched for... Guilty Pleasures. (Oooooohhhhhhh!!!) I thought a lot about what I would make... clearly I wanted to make a dessert... how much more of a guilty pleasure can you get than dessert? But also.... I REALLY like alcohol. Hahaha. So, I THOUGHT I found the perfect recipe that had a combination of the two. Frozen Mojito Cake-tails by Rachael Ray. This is what the dessert was supposed to look like:

This is what I got:

FAIL

The filling and the crust did not stay together, so when you pried the "cake" out of the muffin tin (with a wet knife like Rachael says!), it didn't come out together. Boo-urns. It still tastes pretty good, just in separate pieces.

Frozen Mojito Cake-tails
Yields 12 servings
recipe from Rachael Ray Magazine

Ingredients
-2 sticks (8 ounces) butter
-3 cups salted pretzels, finely crushed
-Two 8-ounce packages cream cheese, softened
-Grated peel of 3 limes, plus 1/2 cup lime juice
-2 tablespoons white rum
-3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh mint, plus sprigs for garnish
-2 cups heavy cream

Directions
1. In a medium skillet, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Stir in the pretzels and 2 tablespoons sugar and cook until lightly toasted, about 3 minutes. Transfer to a bowl to cool slightly. Press about 2 tablespoons into the bottom of each cup of a 12-cup muffin pan. Freeze for 30 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese on medium speed, scraping down the sides of the bowl, until fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Mix in the remaining 1 1/4 cups sugar on low speed, then gradually mix in the lime peel, lime juice, rum and chopped mint.

3. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Fold into the cream cheese mixture.

4. Divide the cream cheese mixture evenly among the muffin cups; smooth the tops. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 8 hours or overnight.

5. To serve, run a wet knife around each cake, then invert the pan onto a clean work surface. Set each cake upright and top with a mint sprig.

Questions!!
1. Was the recipe easy to follow?
Sort of. I made WAY too much of the pretzel crust mixture, because I misinterpreted the 3 cups of finely crushed pretzels as 3 cups of whole pretzels, then crushed, when afterwards I realized it should have been 3 cups of pretzels, finely crushed. Stupid Rachael Ray. This would explain why the crust probably didn't stick, because there wasn't enough butter for the amount of pretzels. I would also grate the lime peels wth a zester next time, because the peel bits were a little too big.

2. Did the dish taste good?
Yes. The batter itself definitely tasted like a mojito, and it went well with the salty/sweetness of the pretzel mixture. It is a very powerful taste though. If you don't like mojitos, this probably isn't for you.

3. Would you make it again?
Yes, only to see if I could make it correctly this time. :)

4. Leftover quotient?
Well because I made too much of the pretzel mixture, I also had more batter leftover, since there was too much pretzel in the muffin tins. So, I made a bunch more. But otherwise, if you were making this for a dessert for company or something, I don't think you'd have leftovers.

5. Any additions/edits to the recipe?
Nope. Although next time I would also crush the pretzels more fine than I did.

6. Dave's thoughts:
"We really need a lime zester and not a cheese grater to use on the limes. Sugar, butter and pretzels are one of the best combinations ever." (Since we had leftover, we sampled some on it's own.) "And the strong flavor demands that you eat it after a meal, and not first thing in the morning." (We also sampled them first thing this morning, since we had to wait for them to freeze overnight.)

Technically I should have known that this recipe was not set up for success since we had such trouble finding fresh mint! I went to every supermarket in our town, and none of them had it. Luckily Dave is awesome and went looking for me the next day, and found some in a fruit stand nearby. Phew!

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-77137250097242378842009-07-10T14:11:00.006-04:002009-07-10T14:33:23.911-04:00Happiness comes in a box (from the GAP!)Yesterday I was FLIPPING OUT when bloggers were twittering about getting welcome boxes from Brand About Town and the GAP. Where was mine? OMG was I not chosen? How could I not be chosen? I'm pretty freaking awesome! What was going on?? I asked Dave if anything came for me from the GAP and he said no. Then I was sad. But it turns out that I spoke too soon, because not much later I got a text from Dave letting me know that a box had come from the GAP addressed to "Lacey Bean". Hahaha. (Bean is not my last name, in case you didn't know.)

I didn't get home until late at night, but you bet I tore into that box the minute I walked into the door!

Opening the box

The goodies! Mini lip-glosses (can't wait to try!), SUPER CUTE ginormous bag that I LOVE, and "Close" perfume, which smells delicious! (Even though it took me 5 minutes to get that case open. I is not smart.)

And of course, the Born to Blog t-shirt!! As a GAP Brand Enthusiast, one must model the clothing that one is given. No?

This shirt is SO comfortable. OMG it's like wearing a shirt your boyfriend had for 7 years that you've claimed as your own because it's so worn in. (Please ignore the fact that due to my shortness, and Dave's tallness, the "Born To" is partially hidden by my cleavage.)

I'm so excited to have my party! I wish I could do it ASAP, but I'm leaving for Costa Rica on the 19th so it looks like it'll have to be right after I get back!

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-6364239410222836522009-07-10T11:03:00.010-04:002009-07-10T11:30:48.322-04:00Now you Know my NoseSince my tweets and facebook update this past Sunday that I pierced my nose, you people, (Yes, YOU people) have been clamoring to see it. I'll be honest, at first I wasn't sure if I liked it, and I keep thinking that it's way bigger than it really is. (The piercing, not my nose. Jerks.) But now, almost a week later, I think it's growing on me. :)

Also, we basically went straight from the piercer to my aunt's house for a family get together. Most of them didn't even notice, or thought I had it done already! Many people have actually said this to me, I guess I have a nose fit for piercing? And my parents... sheesh. My Dad finally saw it and said, "I thought you were better than that." Ouch. All was fine 5 minutes later, but still. And my mom, well once I told her I was going to take it out for the wedding, she didn't care as much. Priorities!

Ta-da!!! I know you love the EXTREME CLOSE UP on the right. Please excuse my shiny, shiny face. We had just come home from a Reel Big Fish concert, and it was like 12:30am. The shininess was not in the forefront of my mind at that moment.

Thought? I have to wait like 2 months before I can change it/take it out, so I guess by then it'll either grow on me or I'll get rid of it.

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-11988594015276372612009-07-09T15:33:00.004-04:002009-07-09T15:47:43.682-04:00IT'S HERE!!!I got a call at work yesterday that made me SO happy. My wedding dress came in!!! Early!!! It was supposed to come at the end of July, but was at the store yesterday, and IT'S HERE!!!!

I immediately called my mom... who didn't pick up at first. Ughh. So I IM'd my Co-MOHs, and we all did a virtual jumping up and down dance. Via GChat. And then I called my mom again, and she picked up FINALLY, and we "YAY"d to each other over the phone.

Then after I stopped celebrating I had to call the alterations department at the store to schedule my "try-on". Not a fitting, but just an appointment to try on the dress and make sure its correct. The first appointment they had was the 16th, which sadly means my mom wont be able to join, since she is going to Florida. I was going to push it back, but I'm on vacation from the 19th until the 26th, and I don't want to wait that long!! Luckily Arielle, Co-MOH extraordinaire can come, so off we will go to try on my dress, and take pictures of it, and then hide those pictures from Dave so he can't see it. (Sorry babe!)

Now I just have to remember to look semi-presentable that day, so I don't look like a bum in my dress!!! (Yes, even for trying it on, I have to look nice.)

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-89915337633161479152009-07-08T13:39:00.003-04:002009-07-13T11:05:35.635-04:00Summer of Accomplishment Part Deux!! (NYC-to-See)It's that time once again. Last year Dave and I compiled a list of things that we wanted to do during the summer in NYC. We actually got a bunch of those things done, and as for walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, well you all know that occurred this past February when we got engaged. :) Regardless, that list was from 2008, and so we need one for 2009!

HOWEVER - I am now calling this list the "NYC-to-See" list, because it's already July, and Dave and I are going to Costa Rica for 8 days, so I can't see us having time to do everything by summer's end. So, it's a NYC bucket list, if you will. Even though I have no plans to leave the city anytime soon.

So here it is, and because I'm OCD, I categorized the list by borough. :)

Manhattan

1. Between the birthday celebrations, BBQs, hitting up the beach, and getting baby fever for the first time, this was such a good weekend. Except for when my eye kept being itchy all weekend and I woke up in the middle of the night scratching the shit out of it. No fun.

ANYWAY, I don't want to go into long winded detail about the weekend, but here are four very important things.

1. My birthday cookie cake, courtesy of my co-worker Brian:

There was all kinds of deliciousness up in here. And it was HUGE.

2. The best shirt EVER (made for me by the lovely Arielle):

LOVE IT!

3. The biggest bra you've ever seen in your life, courtesy of Jeremy's Ale House (where the beers come in quantities of 32 ounces, and only in Styrofoam cups:

Giggidy!

And 4., I got my nose pierced!! I've wanted it for awhile, and finally got the guts to do it on Sunday! My parents weren't too thrilled, but what can they do? Im 26. Also my mom was fine with it after I said yes, I would take it out for the wedding. Haha. No pictures yet, but I'll have them soon!

And thank you everyone for all the birthday comments, FB messages and tweets! It was awesome, thanks soooooooooo much!!!

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-4448783684938873792009-07-02T11:24:00.005-04:002009-07-02T12:29:08.826-04:00Whip it Up Week 1! "Holiday" Favorites w/ a twist!
Yay Whip it Up is back!! As a reminder, Whip it Up is a 8 week challenge to bake/cook/procure one new recipe each week. Each week has a theme, which you don't have to stick to, but I like to try and make it work. (As Tim Gunn would say.)

A few weeks ago I was so excited to see that the themes had come out. And then I saw that this week's theme was "Holiday" Favorites. Insert crickets chirping here. I didn't know what to do! While my family is big into holidays I couldn't put my finger on one item that said "holiday favorite" to me, and I had already made the other holiday goodies that I was familiar with. So I thought about what I would do for each holiday, what I would usually eat, etc. And then it dawned on me - Jews get Chinese food on Christmas! That's "our" holiday - Chinese food and a movie! I'll make chinese food!! I found a recipe for Lo Mein (one of my favorites) and off I went!

Everything Lo Mein
Yields 4 servings
recipe from Food Network - Rachael Ray

Ingredients
Sauce:
-3 rounded tablespoons hoisin sauce
-3 tablespoons dark soy, eyeball it
-3 tablespoons water, eyeball it
-2 teaspoons hot sauce, eyeball it

Everything Lo Mein:
-1 pound spaghetti
-Salt
-1/4 cup vegetable oil, divided
-2 large eggs, beaten
-3 chicken breast cutlets, thinly sliced into strips
-3 thin cut pork chops, thinly sliced into strips
-Black pepper
-2 teaspoons ground coriander
-2 inches fresh ginger, chopped or grated
-4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
-6 scallions, cut into 3-inch lengths then sliced lengthwise
-1/2 pound shiitake mushrooms, chopped
-1 red bell pepper, cut into quarters, seeded, then sliced
-1 small can sliced water chestnuts
-2 cups fresh bean sprouts, 4 generous handfuls or 1/2 pound shredded cabbage, your choice

Directions
1. Mix together sauce ingredients and reserve.

2. Bring pasta water to a boil, salt water and cook spaghetti to al dente.

3. While pasta cooks, heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large, nonstick skillet over high heat. When oil ripples, add beaten eggs and scramble them to light golden brown, remove and reserve.

4. Season the meat with salt, pepper and coriander. Heat the remaining vegetable oil to a ripple, then add meat and stir-fry 4 minutes, push meat to the side and add ginger, garlic and veggies. Stir-fry veggies 2 minutes, then drain and add pasta and eggs back to skillet. Pour sauce over the spaghetti and toss to combine. Turn off pan. Toss 30 seconds and let the liquids absorb.

And now for the questions!!

1. Was the recipe easy to follow?
Yes. What they don't tell you though is that this recipe definitely yields more than 4 servings - Dave and I have enough leftovers for a week! It also doesn't say that you need a ginormous pot/skillet, I had to transfer items back and forth.

2. Did the dish taste good?
Very good. There are strong flavors from the sauce and the coriander. For next time, I would definitely make some extra sauce though, since it was so good and I didn't think it covered enough of the lo mein.

3. Would you make it again?
Yes. With a much bigger skillet. :)

I also decided to throw in some other questions for the Whip it Up Challenge. These will appear on my posts going forward:

4. Leftover quotient?
There is so much food leftover. I could have fed at least 6 people on this one recipe. Thank goodness we liked it, otherwise we'd be stuck with all this food!!

5. Any additions/edits to the recipe?
Besides making more sauce next time, and making sure I had a bigger pot, I did the following right off the bat when making this recipe:
- Didn't use pork. I used only chicken instead and only 3 cutlets.
- Used less than 2 inches of ginger. The comments on the original recipe said that the ginger was overwhelming, and that about an inch and 1/2 would do. I thought with that, the ginger flavor was nice, but not too intense.
- Added canned mini corns and bamboo shoots. When I was getting the hoisin sauce and water chestnuts in the supermarket, I added these two items that I saw because I know I love them when I order lo mein! Especially the corns - yummy!!

And more importantly...
6. Dave's thoughts:
The combination of ingredients was very flavorful and the sauce was great. I enjoyed Lacey's additions of the bamboo shoots and mini corns. Would make more sauce though. (Note - I did paraphrase as I'm at work right now and didn't remember what he said verbatim.)

Enjoy!!

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-11970860757508426972009-07-02T01:11:00.002-04:002009-07-02T01:11:01.468-04:0026 Baby!!

It's now July 2, 1:11am which means I'm now 26 years old!!

WOO HOO!!!!!!

To celebrate, I'm hitting up the new Water Taxi Beach at the South Street Seaport. There I said it. We won't be doing them. Anyone who is important to us will know the date without a paper reminder. My mom also hates them because as she says, then you have no excuse when it comes to going to the wedding. (No one said my mom was nice. Haha.) I don't like them for two reasons, first being that I think they're bad luck. I've gotten at least three Save the Dates (I refuse to refer to them as STDs, because that's awful) where the wedding has later been called off! One of them, a good friend of mine, was 6 months before her wedding. :( The second reason is that they catch you off guard when it's for a wedding that you had no idea you'd be invited to! Then you spend months agonizing if you're going to go, only to maybe not get an invitation in the end (true story). In the past few months Dave and I have received two Save the Dates for weddings we had no clue we'd be invited to, one for a cousin that Dave hasn't spoken to in years, and another for friends of a friend. We also were told by word of mouth that we'd be invited to another one that we had no clue about. (And of course, we had no plans and still have no plans to invite these parties to our wedding. Mean? Oh well. I don't believe in owing anybody any return invitation. Call me a bitch, whatev!)

One of the weddings that we got a Save the Date for is for a couple that we actually saw at our wedding tasting. They got engaged a few months after us, but are getting married this upcoming November. At the same venue. In the same room.

If we decide to go, only because we'd have fun partying with Dave's other friends who are invited... do I really want to experience my wedding before my wedding? I mean, same room, a lot of the same people (at least from Dave's end) and possibly same food. Definitely will be overlapping cocktail hour food.

On the one hand, that means we'll get to experience the stuff we haven't yet, like the entrees, how the night flows, etc. But on the other hand... I just think that's weird!! If they were good friends of ours obviously I wouldn't bat an eyelash and we'd be going and having a phenomenal time. But for a couple that we barely know?

What would you do? Would you go just so you can see how the venue handles a similar size wedding? Or would you not go because they aren't good friends and you don't want to go through an extremely similar set up of your own wedding?

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-17720231740088868982009-06-30T12:54:00.005-04:002009-06-30T13:54:47.126-04:00"He wants a glass of milk!"My college friend Nicole always had the best stories. Things just happened to her family, like the time she put her name in a Bed Bath and Beyond drawing, won a car, and had a picture of her w/ the car put up in BB&B's everywhere. I haven't seen Nicole in a long time, but my friend Chase heard from her and passed along this gem. This is the best story you've EVER heard. Keep in mind that this story comes from Nicole's sister's roommate's friend. Or something:

So Steve and Nick are friends, and Nick decides that he wants to try shrooms. Steve decides he doesn't want to partake, since he's done them already, so he lets Nick have fun on his own. Nick gets rolling, and soon decides he wants to go home. Steve isn't ready to leave (wherever they are) yet, so he tells Nick ok, and off he goes.

Soon after Nick leaves, Steve gets a phone call from him:

Nick: Steve!
Steve: Yeah, Nick?
Nick: There's a leprechaun following me!!
Steve: No, there's no leprechaun following you Nick.
Nick: Are you sure? He's right behind me?
Steve: Yeah, there's nothing there, just keep walking home.

A few moments after, Steve gets another phone call from Nick:

Nick: Steve!
Steve: Yeah, Nick?
Nick: Steve the leprechaun wants to come inside! Should I let him inside?
Steve: No Nick, don't let the leprechaun inside! There is no leprechaun.
Nick: I dunno, he really wants to come in.
Steve: Nick, don't let the leprechaun inside.

Fast forward to a few more minutes later, and yet another phone call:

Nick: Hey Steve!
Steve: Yeah, Nick?
Nick: Steve, the leprechaun wants a glass of milk. Should I give him a glass of milk?
Steve (who at this point gives up): Yeah sure Nick, give him a glass of milk.
Nick: Ok.

Steve finally gets home, and asks Nick where the leprechaun is.

Nick: Oh, he's in the closet.
Steve: The leprechaun is in the closet?
Nick: Yeah, I gave him a glass of milk and that's where he wanted to go.

Steve warily goes over to the closet, opens it, and there is a MIDGET DRINKING A GLASS OF MILK IN THE CLOSET!!!

After they freak out, and Nick comes down from his high, they realize that the midget is mentally handicapped, and the next morning (I think) they take him down to the police station where they are rewarded $10,000 because the guy had been missing from his group home for a week!! And Nick was thankful that he was high on shrooms, because otherwise he never would have let the guy into his house.

Moral of the story: Always let leprechauns into your home. And give them a glass of milk.

*Some have claimed that they've heard this story before. That's fine, I'm still telling it because I nearly peed myself when I heard it.

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com17tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-54898981320579045102009-06-29T16:10:00.000-04:002009-06-29T16:13:25.862-04:00"Sit Down!" She looks freaking amazing, can sing live and it sounds just like the recorded versions, and is still all around FANTASTIC. Not to mention she can wear a sequined, silver and black checkerboard jumper that would look hideous on 98% of the population and ROCK IT. And she has a killer six pack, after having a baby less than a year ago. Sigh.

The concert was at Jones Beach out in Long Island and thank god it didn't rain! We got there a few hours early and tailgated with Dave's sisters, just hanging out, discreetly drinking beer and snacking away. We made our way inside because I wanted to see Paramore, and we all had to pee.

Oh - side note! At one point during tailgating Dave's sister Adrienne and I had to go to the bathroom, so we walk down to where they are by the beach and the line for the women's bathroom is SO LONG. OMG it must have been like 75 people deep. So with beers in hand (yes, in hand) we decide to hit up the mens room. There were two girls there pleading with a parks department guy to let them in, and he was all no, you can't, I'll get in trouble blah blah. Then Adrienne starts telling him that he can't keep us out of there (haha) and yells into the bathroom and at any passing guy "Do you care if there are girls in here? Do you guys care?" You just heard a chorus of "No!" and so we made our way inside, much to the parks department guys chagrin. Whatever, we beat that horrendous line and were back to our cars in like 10 mins. Thank heavens for my future sister-in-law!

Back to when we were inside the concert - I watched Paramore, which was fun, while my friends ignored/made fun of them. I wish more people than just 15 year old girls and myself were into them haha. What does that say about me?? I also purchased an insanely overpriced No Doubt concert tee, but honestly, who knows when they'll tour again, I LOVE them and I'm a t-shirt whore. Any bar/concert/event I go to, I needs a t-shirt. Later I also got this limited edition poster that was only for the Jones Beach show. Awesome. I have to frame it and hang it somewhere Dave will hate. (Love you!)

No Doubt finally went on, and they were PHENOMENAL. I mean, one of, if not the best concert I have been to. Ever. So entertaining, such amazing sets, and just.... UHHHHHHHH SOOOO GOOOOD. We almost got into a fight with people sitting behind us though. My friend Annie LOVES No Doubt, and had been excited about the show for weeks. When they started playing, no one was standing up! Or, no one in our section was. So she started having a minor panic attack about it and so I grabbed her arm, yanked her up, and we stood up, along with Arielle and our other friend Chase. And 2 seconds after this woman behind us yelled for us to sit down! And I said hell no, you stand up! It's a concert for goodness sakes!! You're not sitting down to watch a Yanni concert or smoke a bowl and lay on the floor to watch Dave Matthews Band! This is NO DOUBT!! You stand up and respect them!!! :) Luckily she shut up soon after, but I felt so bad for this couple seated to my left, they wanted to stand up during the show too but people behind them kept yelling at them and just making their night miserable. The WHOLE section next to me was sitting the ENTIRE TIME. Who does that?? But regardless of the party poopers around, we had such a good time. They played every single hit they ever had, including the Adam and the Ants "Stand and Deliver" cover that they played on Gossip Girl and ended with Sunday Morning which made my life complete, since that is my favorite No Doubt song.

LOVE!!!!

*All No Doubt pictures on my Flickr.

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-85980227027926131232009-06-26T14:20:00.002-04:002009-06-26T14:33:49.904-04:00Gonna Dress You Up in GAP Love! (All Over, All Over!)Finally, FINALLY yesterday it was my chance to meet with Justine from Brand About Town after enviously reading post after post of bloggers who had already done so. I nervously walked into the SONY Public Space (or whatever it's called) and looked for a woman with short, brown hair, since that's how Ashley told me how to find her. :) And of course after finding her, the Austrailian accent gave it away.

We sat down once I got some water, because it was SO MUGGY out yesterday, and got to chatting. I felt immediately at ease with Justine, which was great, and we laughed a lot at blog stuff, theme parties, and got down to the details of the Gap campaign. If you didn't hear/read already, The Gap is coming out with a new line of jeans, which are supposed to fit really great, and they're looking for "brand ambassadors" to spread the word before their launch. She also asked if Dave would be interested in participating, as they may be looking to do co-ed parties, and I said hells yes he would!

After we had talked for awhile, and gone over some blog logistics, Justine asked if I knew about heading over to the Gap for a free outfit. I had to admit that yes, I had, since I had already read so many blogs that had done so! And since it was the tail end of all the blogger interviews for her, she had suspicions that most of us would know by now. So off we headed to the Gap on 5th Avenue, where I was immediately overwhelmed. I'm the type of shopper where if I don't see anything I like during the first browse through the store, I leave. I don't have the patience to really dig for items, and I'm very picky when it comes to clothes. Luckily, I saw a bunch of items I liked and started grabbing!! Justine was great in showing me items that she liked, sizes she thought would work better for me, and wouldn't let me carry a thing!!! Oh and we also laughed over our mutual love of the color grey. Since we were both wearing grey. And 3 out of 4 items I chose are grey!

After trying on my items in the kids dressing room because the adults was too crowded, I walked away with these lovely new clothes!! And also, please enjoy Dave's photography skills and also notice how the pictures get sillier with each one because Dave kept trying to get me to "pose".

The "Blogger dress" as I'm calling it. Since at least 2 other bloggers got it besides me! VERY cute and comfortable, and it can definitely be dressed up or down.

ADORABLE grey ruffle tank. I tried to find it on the Gap website, but alas it was not to be found. I'm wearing this out tonight with my skinny jeans and some cute new Steve Madden heels I recently purchased.

Flutter Tee - this shirt made me laugh when I first tried it on, because the sleeves stuck out SO MUCH - I felt like they were wings! But then Justine mentioned that the sleeves should go down with wear, so I figured why not! It'll be great for my events at work. (Notice the goofy smile.)

Something not grey! I love me some cardigans and this pink one was no exception. I may purchase the same one in lavendar, it's super comfy! It looked very boxy before I tried it on, but then fit great. And yes, I'm throwing "the Rocker" next to one of Dave's guitars. Don't judge me. :)

The whole experience was really fun and I loved that I got along with Justine so well (as it seems every blogger did!) I can't wait to see the new jeans that The Gap is coming out with and hopefully get to have all my friends try them on at a Gap party!!

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-17263803344451713292009-06-24T10:45:00.002-04:002009-07-13T16:04:55.797-04:00Honesty is the Best PolicyI've been tagged by Carolyn @ Writing is my therapy with the Honest Scrap award.

"The Honest Scrap award comes with a caveat or two. Firstly, you have to tell your readers ten things about you they may not know, but that are true. Secondly, you have to tag 10 people with the award. Thirdly, let all the people you've given the award to know that they've gotten it (comment on their blogs or something). And finally, make sure you link back to the person who awarded you."

I've been tagged with this one before, but let's see if I can come up with 10 new "honest" tidbits about myself.

1. I eat some strange things. Like whole cucumbers with salt on the outside. And egg whites w/ cream cheese and a little salt. (I like salt. And weird things with salt.)

2. When I was an unruly, bad ass teenager (or something like that), I used to steal. Nothing large, never clothing or stuff like that, but there was this one small shop by my house that I used to steal those wish bracelets/rings from, until I got caught. Well, they didn't catch me, but my friend went back to the store after we had taken some stuff because she forgot something, and they wanted to hold her there until we came looking for her! She managed to leave, but I never went in there again. One time my mom wanted to go in and I freaked and made up something about wanting to go to some other store. Phew. (Side note - stealing is no longer condoned by Lacey Bean.)

3. I became a half-assed Wiccan after seeing The Craft when I was 12. And by half-assed I mean I bought some books on dreams and stuff, light some candles for love and whatever other things you light candles for, and I lit incense. Which I hated the smell of.

4. I lost my V-card when I was 16. On New Year's Eve. Very cliché. But sadly I was not one of the first of my friends to lose it, I was one of the last! We moved fast in my circle. Sad.

5. It took two tries for me to pass my drivers test. And if memory serves me, two tries to pass my permit test. Yeah. I didn't study at all. Ooops. And I'm not a HORRIBLE driver. Am I the best? That's up for discussion...

6. Bloggers who are super popular and get TONS of comments make me jealous. Especially ones who have been blogging for less time than I have. What am I doing wrong?

7. I love to sing. LOVE to sing. But I will not sing in public or with Dave in the car. Only by myself, where I think no one else can hear me (singing in bars doesn't count, because since everyone is singing along, no one can hear JUST me.) I think this stems from getting kicked out of elementary school Glee Club (HAHAHA) and also my Dad making fun of me for singing in the shower (where I thought no one could hear me, what was my logic on that one?) So now, no singing. Only to myself (and the massive crowd at the bar.)

8. I've wanted to get a tattoo for years, but can't get the one I originally wanted because people will think it's for Dave. (If you know his last name, then you'll know what I wanted - BEFORE I met him.) Now I just decided on something else I want to get, but I'm afraid because I want it near my hip, and I don't want it to stretch when it comes times that I am pregnant.

9. Larry David annoys the hell out of me. I have never seen Curb Your Enthusiasm because I cannot stand the sound of his voice. I don't get why people think he's funny. I also absolutely LOATHE Sacha Baron Cohen. LOATHE. I didn't see Borat, and I wont see his new movie. I don't think he's at all funny, and I can't stand comedians who get their laughs by exploiting others/making people uncomfortable. I give Isla Fisher credit for being married to him. I think he's completely awful.

10. I am afraid that I am too selfish of a person to be a good mother. I know that's supposed to change when you actually become a mother, but still, a little freaked!!

And I pass this award on to...

Shoshanah @ From L.A. to LA
D.A.R. @ Just Another Day in Paradise
Ana from Far Away! @ Something GOOD in Everything I see
Jennifer @ A Place in This World
Nat @ It's a Charmed Life
ENS @ Sweetheart, I must confess...
Sara Jane @ Twist & Turns of a Life w/ Curls
Stacie @ "Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History
Working Girl 1 and 2 @ Working Girl
JLC @ French Kiss

Pony up ladies! However the catch is that you aren't supposed to write something new, but you have to go back into your archives and re-post something from the first two months of your blog. This proved to be hilarious because I started blogging in September of 2007, and when I had no readers, I mainly used my blog to bitch about coworkers! (Especially "The Midge") Anywho, I tried to find a post that shows my "mentality and outlook from the onset of your blog", and it turns out I didn't talk much about the act of blogging or my opinion on it. (Which is what I got from that statement.) So, I'm re-posting a good one about guys hooting and hollering at me on the street (much like Kat just did, but not as vulgar). From October 24, 2007:

Ok, I was going to post about this yesterday, but chose to have random posts instead, and then got distracted by House and Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. N-E-way.

So I've decided that I can't walk down the street by myself anymore. Why? Because in the half a block it took to get to Dunkin Donuts, I was subjected to horndog comments from <del>men</del> idiots.

This isn't one of those posts like, "omg, I am sooooo pretty, it's so hard being so pretty when guys hit on me all day." NAY. Yes, I do think I am attractive (although not as much as my boyfriend thinks I am... that's why he's so great), but it still just always shocks the hell out of me when I'm innocently walking down the street, and a guy whispers (or yells) something at me. Yesterday:

I'm walking down the street, and one guy says "good morning" to me. So I said good morning back (don't know him). Then I SWEAR he said "Just set it, and forget it." Like the fucking Ronco Rotisserie commercial? What?? Then not 4 more feet down the block, another guy walks passed me going the opposite way and says "you're beautiful". Ok seriously, I appreciate the compliment. Maybe I was getting this attention because I actually cared enough to put makeup on my face yesterday morning.

But guys, do you really think that we get turned on by you shouting things out to us on the street? I think I'm more mortified than anything!! Where did you learn to do this? Was there a TV show that depicted construction workers hooting at girls, and you thought "hey that's cool, I'm going to try me some of that!"? Would you want someone hollering at your mother/sister/niece/insert other female relative here Seriously though, we females appreciate that you think we look good, but yelling out "Eyy Yo BaBEE! Lookin' goooooooood!" does NOT get you anywhere with us, nor will it score you any points. Blech!

Yup, I'm still the same sarcastic a-hole that I was back in October 2007. And I still don't like being hollered at on the street. So not much has changed!!! :) I am interested to see what other bloggers re-post, and if they think they've changed since then!

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-19457227355621306072009-06-23T14:18:00.001-04:002009-06-23T14:36:15.529-04:002 PassesFor the longest time I've known of "the list". This was the list of people that you could sleep with while in a relationship, and it would be ok. (The list is supposed to pertain to famous people only. Clearly you don't want to add your boyfriend's best friend or brother or something. Cause that would be AWKWARD.) So, as a keeper of a "list", I was surprised when two of my coworkers informed me that I was wrong, and it's not a list, but "2 passes" that you get in your relationship. What? Only 2? But I usually add someone to my list once a week! (Or so.) Well now I had to think of the (only) 2 people that I could get free passes for. And after much deliberation, we have my 2:

Ryan Reynolds. Yum. I loved him ever since I saw Van Wilder, because not only is he hot, but he has the best one-liners in that movie. I'm even ok with the fact that he's married to Scarlett Johanssen, because she's hot too, even though her voice sometimes annoys me. But she was great in A Girl With the Pearl Earring, so all is forgiven. I'm just glad he didn't marry Alanis, because although I loved Jagged Little Pill when it came out, you just don't measure up to Ryan sweetheart. Dave Coulier was more your speed.

John Krasinski. Yum yum!! I didn't really know about him until I saw commercials for that movie he was in with Mandy Moore, and then this summer I started watching old episodes of The Office and fell in Looooooovee. I mean, how can you not love? Boy next door looks, awesome sense of humor, and just overall huggableness. I kind of wish he was dating Jenna Fischer in real life too. THAT would be amazing. Oh and I really want to see that new movie he is in with Maya Rudolph, Away We Go. Even though he sports a beard and glasses in it, he's still totally do-able. Which is what I told Dave when he asked. :)

Dave's picks, on the other hand, are Beyonce (which surprised me) and whichever hot girl he can think of on any given week. He barely knows the names of celebrities as it is, so this is acceptable.

Do you and your significant other have "passes" or "the list"? Regardless, who would be your choices?

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-2621687907756279882009-06-22T14:30:00.005-04:002009-06-22T15:26:44.763-04:00From LA to AZI feel like I blinked and then realized it's been a week since I last blogged. Wow. This week was just crazy with being in LA for work, and then flying down to Arizona to see family. Unfortunately my uncle's mom passed away right when I got down there, but travel allowed for me to stay the weekend. The funeral was today, and we'll be paying our shiva call this week, since it was in NYC.

I don't want to blather on about what I did in the last week, so here's an update in pictures:

In Los Angeles I...

Properly ordered In N' Out Burger. Animal Style fries and a cheeseburger, with grilled onions and hold the "spread". (That gross mayonnaise stuff I disliked last time.) After ordering In N' Out "the right way" this time, I will retract my previous statement, and say that I like In N' Out. I do not LOVE, but I like.

Got a Diddy Riese ice cream cookie sandwich. It was the wedding of a close friend of Dave's, and we all had an awesome time. And I wasn't hungover on Sunday, so that was a WIN for me. (Mainly due to Dave being smart and taking away my wine when he saw me on the cusp of having fun/being cute drunk to borderline getting sick/crying drunk. Go Dave!)

Also, it seems that when I'm drinking and dancing, I have a tendency to break out some sweet dance moves, like the Batusi:

I am awesome

While we had a great time at the wedding, and the bride looked beautiful, I couldn't help but judge and analyze every. single. little. detail. I. saw. Clearly being engaged and getting married 9 months from now has made me want to pick apart everything that goes into a wedding, and compare it to what I am doing for mine. Which, fine, it's ok to compare or get ideas, but it seems that I also like to drunk talk about it, because I remember saying many times to Dave's friends, "At OUR wedding we're not doing this." "At OUR wedding, we're doing such and such." "OUR wedding is going to be awesome."

No one is going to want to come to OUR wedding if I keep it up haha.

All night people were saying to us, "You're next! You guys are next! Woo!", but who am I to say that our wedding is going to be any better than another? I was telling my mom this and she was like, oh yeah, you're definitely going to analyze every wedding you see from now until March 20. I understand why I was doing it, but really, can I truly compare our 150 person, country club, non-denominational wedding to a wedding that was 200+ people, Catholic church ceremony, Chinese restaurant reception and 1 dress change? (She wore a traditional "American" wedding dress for the ceremony and part of the reception, and then changed into a Chinese wedding dress for the rest of the reception. It was pretty neat.)

You married/engaged ladies (and men)... did you judge/analyze/beat to death any weddings you went to before your own? Tell me I'm not alone here!

Lacey Beanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12295262934122471371noreply@blogger.com33tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7150143449172055651.post-10156561063366683432009-06-12T16:28:00.003-04:002009-06-12T16:56:17.319-04:00Oh so comfortable!Saw this on the Ignorant Historian, and thought it was cute!!

My comfort clothes:
- Flip Flops
- Tank tops (most likely from Old Navy)
- My Dad's original 1986 Mets World Champions t-shirt
- College 2004 Homecoming sweatpants

My comfort foods:
- Microwave popcorn (not super buttery)
- Spaghetti Pie
- Mom's cheesecake (need to get the recipe for and make some day)
- Dirty Vodka Martinis (haha!)
- Pickles
- Cup o'Noodles/Ramen
- Microwave Kraft Mac N' Cheese

My comfort movies:
- Singing in the Rain
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off
- Breakfast Club
- Dirty Dancing
- Harry Potter (any of them)
- Annie
- Mary Poppins
- Newsies
- Pretty Woman
- Stranger than Fiction
- Chicago
- I could go on and on and on... I want to make sure that I share these things with you guys, so...

Atlantic Avenue Tunnel Tour - this is the world's oldest subway tunnel, located in Brooklyn. This guy discovered it in 1980, after countless people told him it didn't exist, and now he gives tours once a month. It's hilarious what you do to get down there - everyone lines up outside of a Trader Joe's, and then waits to cross the street in small groups because you're going down the manhole to the tunnel, right in the middle of the street! Once you're in the tunnel, you're escorted to the end by Bob, the guy who found it back in the 80s, and some actors performing skits (that were super cheesy) but it did make the time go by when you're walking a half-mile. It was really cool to be down in the tunnel, hearing all about the history of it and how Bob found it (and he is REALLY funny telling the story).

Ippudo - I hung out with my friend Chase, and as a lover of Ramen (like myself), she brought up wanting to go to Ippudo, a ramen restaurant down by Astor Place. The ramen was promised to be delicious, and the wait was promised to be long - they don't take reservations. I'm ok with a wait as long as I know ahead of time, so we put our names down, and then walked around a bit until the time our table was supposed to be ready. The ambiance of this restaurant is amazing, and I love that they bring out the ramen in bowls of all different shapes and sizes. They also have the staff yell out a welcome, or what I assume is a welcome, when you walk in, which reminded me of the scene from Monsters, Inc. where they go to the sushi restaurant and the monters that work there yell out at you when you walk in the door. I am a child.

NYC Pizza Tour - I got a Groupon for Scott's Pizza Tours, which gives walking or bus tours of iconic pizza places in the city. Dave and I went on Memorial Day, and had a great time with our tour group, and with Scott, who is awesome. Never have I met a person so enthusiastic about pizza! We went to Lombardi's, Joe's Pizza, and John's Pizzeria, and by the end of it, I was so full! And it was all delicious! (Lombardi's was definitely my favorite.) Besides the pizza, I also loved our walk through the city, because I got to see some great stuff:

I'm also waiting for Scott to get in more t-shirts (it's the logo of the website - a pizza pie with the city skyline coming out of it) and I am FIENDING for one. If you know me you know my love of t-shirts from bars/teams/events. SCOTT GET MORE SHIRTS!!! He was sad because he still doesn't know if his foot is broken or not, and had to stay home from work again. Dave does not like staying in the house all day. So I, the best fiance ever, went into the kitchen to bake something that would make him happy. I got the recipe from MTM-to-Be, who is now officially MTM, because she got married this weekend!! CONGRATS!

While I was making the bread I wouldn't let Dave peek into the kitchen so it would be a surprise. And when I was done, I first burned my hand on a hot loaf pan, but then I showed Dave and he was very happy. And even happier after he tasted it.

I brought a loaf into the office today (the recipe makes 2) and it was gone by 11am. I guess that's a good sign! The bread was super easy to make and was a one bowl recipe, which I LOVE. Less clean up!! And it's delicious. Not too cinnamony, which is great for me cause I'm not a huge fan of cinnamon, the crust is hard and the inside is soft and moist, and the apple chunks add so much flavor. Yummm.

I'm thinking dessert tonight may be warmed up apple bread with a scoop of ice cream on top. (Totally Dave's idea yesterday, but I wouldn't let him have anything on the apple bread. He needed to try it straight out first. Now he can add all the crap he wants to it.) :)

Apple Bread Recipe:

Ingredients:
1 cup of oil
2 cups of sugar
4 eggs
3 cups of flour
1 tsp of baking soda
1 tsp of cinammon
1/2 tsp of salt
1 tsp of vanilla
3 cups of apples, pealed and chopped

Directions:
1. Like, a LOT. And recently, I've noticed that there are a few commercials out there that characters who freak me the hell out. As in, I don't like them, they scare me, and they have no right being on television. In order:

1. That old dude from the Six Flags commercials. It's not funny, and clearly it's not an actual old person. (Which might make it funny if it were.) Aren't there rumors that it's actually a young, female dancer inside there? Regardless, this old man does not sit well with me. And now that he talks in the commercials? Even creepier.

So. Weird.

2. The Old Navy mannequins. Oh sorry, I meant "Supermodelquins". What the hell were the marketing people thinking? The commercials are sooooo dumb. And the mannequins? Scary as hell. Although I did laugh when that one guy mannequin had a tattoo of the other girl mannequin on his leg, much to his mannequin fiance's dismay. That was pretty amusing.

Who thought this was a good idea?

3. The Burger King "King". I hate him. HATE. Perhaps more than any other commercial character ever. He's just so creepy!! Why does he appear in random places with fast food? I'm sorry, but if this weird ass king character was in my bed when I woke up, holding up a breakfast sandwich with a kajillion calories in it, I would have a panic attack and run screaming out of the room.

Quite possibly the worst thing to wake up to.
